A good book for anyone contemplating divorce as well
as for those already divorced. Recommendations deal with what to expect, the
practical aspects of divorce, and the often overwhelming emotions. The book
discusses how children may be helped through the divorce and how parents and children can
establish new lives. Chapters include parenting for parents without custody and
stepfamilies.
Although detailed and with a lot of information, the book is still easy to read. The
chapters and headings make it possible to quickly find information on a particular topic.
Also included are tables of interesting facts (for example, 1300 new stepfamilies
form in the USA every day). Checklists include such varied subjects as dealing with
anxiety, steps in a behavioral change program for children, and eight successful
strategies for stepfamilies.
Dr. Clapp is a family and divorce mediator and conducts divorce adjustment workshops and
stepparenting workshops. She gives examples of real-life situations drawn from her
work that make the book interesting and readable.
